First of all, I am surprised that on this server there is no proper handling of the flight restrictions in no-fly zones yet.
I suppose this is due to lack of [proper] developers on GamezAion (haven't checked if there are any code contributions/patches for the Aion-lightning source to address this issue, but I assumed that the admins here did that already).

I've tried the implementation of no-fly zones on the Atomix server for a bit, to see if they have the same issues (they also have free fly everywhere except Heiron/Beluslan zones). It seems to be handled very well there, as it should -- the wings are promptly clipped as you fly outside the designated free fly areas in Beluslan, for example. Which I like very much. (Don't tell me to go there, I hate the grind on low rate servers like Atomix or IA, I really think Gamez is the best for my casual play style).

On the other hand, whenever I level up my new character in Beluslan I would like to be able to "exploit" this little "bug" that currently exists in GamezAion's non-fly areas, so I could actually fly from Beluslan to various quest points without having to waste time walking around monsters etc. Yes, that's the good side of free-fly, it's good for PvE, where walking is generally a waste of time. So how can we have both (free fly for PvE yet with decent ground PvP) ? For a real Java developer it shouldn't be a problem to code in a solution like this: clip the wings in the no-fly zones (like the Atomix server did it) but only if the altitude is lower than a specific threshold (e.g. maximum spell/arrow range (30m or so), or even higher).
This way we could maintain a high-altitude corridor that people can still use to fly and get faster to their various PvE resource/quest locations, but cannot "abuse" it by attacking any targets on the ground.

Another, even better way to prevent the flying-bug abuse that currently frustrates a lot of ground-PVPers, while still giving some freedom to fly-happy PvE-ers would be to clip the wings of a player only if s/he
    • is in a no-fly area
    AND
    • gets into a specific range of an enemy player (this range should be set to be slightly larger than the maximum spell/projectile range).

IMO this latter solution is better than the high-altitude corridor suggested earlier because it would still allow PvE-ers to fly close to various PvE resources on the ground without losing the freedom to fly -- while any PvP encounter would promptly clip their wings whenever they try to get any closer to an enemy player (in a no-fly area)

I dug around found the old patch that I think was used on Atomix back in the Aion-unique days (as Sarynth seems to be one of the GMs on Aion Atomix):

    http://aion-unique.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=5315

I don't work much with Java and my time is very limited but if there are any developers around they could probably take a look at that patch for "inspiration" (probably needs to be adjusted a bit to work with the current rev of aion-lightning). Heck, if I ever feel like coding a bit after work perhaps I'll take a look at it myself.. Though let's be honest, without a proper motivation it's hard for a working man (or woman) to sacrifice their leisure time for more coding work..

This brings me to the issue of developers' availability and motivation on GamezAion (going a bit off-topic here I know).
Are the developers at least paid per contribution here? I mean, for a server that actually makes some money (through donations) it would only make sense to throw some bucks at the developers too -- if they really bring some valuable improvements to the server. If that is not the case, of course it's hard to find developers to work for free..
