Now I know that some players, actually think that there is only "one way to play" a game. That is indeed unfortunate, but it isn't actually true, since the game you are playing is "your game", and because of that Nobody but you knows what will make it enjoyable.

Yeah, I am sure that some players say things like: "Best/Top/Ultimate-Gear", however if you know about advertising, then you would know that these words are just attention grabbing, not actually factual. Even in mainstream (meta) gaming, there is more than one set of gear for a specific Class as well as the playing style you have.

There will be plenty of guides and sites out there, that will tell what is "the best", but it really just boils down to what you like the most
