Hey guys, so I recieved a project in which I need to write a poem. I wanted to see what kind of Poetry or creative writing you guys have encountered while growing up that has inspired you, or made you just flat out feel good.

Or just throw out names of writers you like.

Here's an inspirational one for me.

Live well dear friends
In all you do,
Tho' paths be old
Or paths be new,
But to yourself
Be ever true,
Live well!

Laugh often friends
Tho' passing years
Bring, sometimes, smiles
And, sometimes, tears,
For mirth forever
Warms and cheers
Laugh often!

Love much dear friends
For love will bring
The healing joy
And hope of Spring,
Where pain and fear may never dwell
Nor anguish touch….

And so Live well,
Laugh often too,
And more, dear friends,
Love much!

Now it's your turn.

Mmm. I love poetry, and I've written a bunch but my favorite is a simple one, one I didn't come up with but I've read it once aloud, and still remember it till today. ^^;

As I sat watching by your bed,
A million thought ran through my head.
Of just how much were you aware?
Did you know that I was there?

Could you feel the love I sent,
In whispered word, Or prayer bent?
Upon my cross as I asked God,
To spare your life for my selfish cause?

So that I could tell you just once more,
"I love you Mommy! " as I had before.
And we could chat like days of old,
Over coffee cups all rimmed with gold.

And laugh and joke, or just to share
some small hurt and perhaps a tear.
To talk of the past, or things yet to do.
To sniffle, and sneeze, and say "Bless You! "

All these dreams now hang in shreds,
As I sit here with bowed down head.
And ponder on these sad thoughts.
Just to wonder, "Was it all for naught? "

It's beautiful. Thanks for your contribution.

Your works would be welcomed as well, unless you feel the community isn't too open-minded. It's your choice, of course.

:p I don't feel like digging out my scrapbook from 3 years ago and typing it all, it'll just remind me of why I started writing them in the first place x.x;

Would be nice to see others post tho. ^^'

Nice poems, the both of you.
This here is just story telling, nothing to my own personal experience. I'll post two of the collection I have.

His Nameless Story

21 12 2060
Oh the illumination, casting over my fragile bones.
I worry where it’ll take me,
maybe above these well founded heroic skies
I always desired to have lived as such as that Ulysses I hear tales of.
Or perhaps the abyss down below?
Withering, withering surrounded by a gathering.
A congregation before my ultimatum, reaching their hands out
as if I was a lord or perhaps even a Jehovah.
I no longer remember the life I once walked.

29 4 2048
An unsung from the shadows I have become.
A thousand smiles linger to me,
shining heavenly that not even silver can buy.
The gulf has been closed... The sacrifices have been fulfilled...
Now a new beginning approaches. I gently smile for the very last time.

17 6 2036
Bullets after bullets, fragmented beliefs, bloods of the tender and all that
is left is a thunderous echo that barricades the doors to my divided soul.
The last remnant that held me as one is shedding away,
the story that was locked away inside.
Oh Bishamon, when will the madness end?
This disease once again clutches my self esteem...
The ace that held me as one has fallen.

11 14 2024
Volition and desire, fortitude over cowardice, a salvation in my world,
and what do I see, is a blessing in the flesh.
Our bloods united as one, a bound of infinity that holds no boundaries.
Drifting away in our own insanity.
None could foresee that the two would be reincarnation as one.
The era of liberation has begun.

Thirty six weeks of visions has reached to a climax.
My nameless saga fast approaches as the lights of entity flashes
through my distant eyes. Hands of reality pull my diminutive body out of its shell.
Blurry voices echo to my delicate ears...

Date of Birth December 21st 2012

Ulysess

I see a mushroom cloud in the Far East.

Atonement of Opportunities

Dazed from his slumber... he rises
Up from his grungy lair and into the streets
Of paradise to those who hold fortune.
The Street that knows no tomorrow.

3 am approaches and the metropolitan lights
Still radiance beyond the strength of the northern lights.
Never has he been in such disgust to see something so
beautiful before his very eyes.

Early morning blossoms and the vultures arrive,
Lingering their tasteless eyes of envy to the unreasonable
manikins of robbery, behind the barricade of opportunities

Swindling the skin of the pure and draining the richness
From the clueless people of opulence, who only
Spread their greens like a bunch of money eating scavengers
with no human moral.

An identical stranger whose face almost resembles
A lively gargoyle rages out of the alleyway and into
the middle of the street, preaching his rights in a foreign
language.

Falling to his knees in disappointment to only here the sounds
Of grey metallic soars passing by. Nobody stopped... Nobody
Listened... He drifts back into his abyss and was never to be seen
Again.

He clenches onto his bones, remembering that he too was one of them.
Covered in wealth, blinded by greed and a single dice roll took away
his sanctuary. Debts plunged into his world whereas families and so called
friends faded away with soulless excuses.

An occasional figure approaches for redemption as the sun falls, his sweet little
adolescent. Her world has shifted in sorrow but her smile gently
sparkles in recovery as she listens to his wisdom. He may have lost the value
of living amongst her, but at heart they're never apart.

He remains as a hermit, to only live and support
his only adolescent, to watch her grow into a fine
women in a country where a gulf leaks in
our stolen world.

Thank you for your contribution Nujabes.

I had to read the first one a few times before I could fully comprehend it. It's very interesting and the word choice in it was just amazing. - Any way you can reference it?

The second one was also very well written and had a good-bad feel to it. I rather enjoyed reading it.

Anyone else is welcomed to share their works, or works they have enjoyed.

Edit: For anyone ready Nujabes's first story, check the dates.

Not sure if I could reference it lol, it was my first poem I ever wrote so it was purely on the way I think. I just tend to always think of story plots in my head so I figured I'd illustrate them out as poems. I might work on doing short stories in the future.

I was unaware that you wrote it. I thought it was something you had collected from pieces you liked.

You did an exceptional job then. It's pretty amazing.

Thank you for sharing your personal works.

Any excerpts in particular stand out to you? Quote them.

Or what is it that you liked about it?

edit: My favorite "Abandon hope, all ye who enter here."
And probably the most memorable as well. :p

i write poems. i'll share one but it's kinda sad. i wrote this when i was so down.

SMELL OF DEATH

Death... why do they fear you?
They try to run away from you
Even they know they can't escape.
Resistance is futile.

Death... when will you reveal?
I can no longer hold on...
I'm so tired and I need to rest.
Soothe me with your fragrance.

Death... where are you now?
I long to be embraced by you.
Visit me in the night
When everything is calm.
Take me away...
Forever...

From when I was like.. 13 -> just when I finished highschool last year I read through a TOOONNN of HP Lovecraft. I absolutely love that guy now.. So weird, so strange, so damn creepy :3

Always been into books about basically evil, insanity etc. cause It makes me realise how demented the human species is really .__.

New book I just started reading about a guy who gets hired to entertain an old lady who is dying, and her son turns up and starts doing strange things, and we all think hes this serial killer mentioned by the news repetively, and it turns out to be the WOMAN, and the guy kills her..

Damn good ^^
I'll dig it out shortly~

Good quote however~
I have never done a thriller, and it will just be really fun for me to heave and pant and run and climb and break windows and scream every once in a while.

It's an old Kate Hudson quote they dip into the story thrice I think ^_^

Edit~
On poetry however~
I am the night.
I am darkness at it's bluest.
To me there is sheer delight in the shadow of the night
No need to insist, for the night I exist.
The light of day is not night's way.
I am the night.
I am a creature of the dark. I have been groomed for gloom.
For eons of time, the night has been mine.
I can't remember when the night and me didn't function as twins.
Just as the ocean's floor holds mysteries, the night alone conceals my history.
I am the night
Just as poetry flows from ocean currents and from the slashing force of wind springs forth designs,
Each drop of rain delivers music to our minds, poetry never ceases.
From my point of view, at night it increases.
I find beauty in each dancing shadow and exquisite delight in the secret of the night.
The spirit things clothed in the unknown,
Travel the same path that I consider home.
Things that move skillfully at night do so without sight.
I love these wonders for I am the night.
My five senses are more acute than most.
Of this superiority, I proudly boast.
My movements are as swift as lightening dashing across the sky.
They can't be held in focus by the human eye.
Question - Who am I?
I feed on a secret vein of life and rest in the protective cover of dusk in disguise.
My skin is cold to the touch, don't worry you won't touch me much.
My beginning is of no importance, but I see no end in sight.
I believe I am forever; I am the night
I have been known by many titles and names.
For none of them do I feel shame, for I exist as all do.
Just as I am me, and you are you.
I am called Satan, Impaler, Death, Blood Drinker; just to name a few -
Pick one that suits you.
Some even call me a Ghost; yet, vampire is what I am called the most
Whether these names are wrong or right, the fact remains -
I am the night.

I like how they opened, and then used that same line to close. It was good.
