[Opinion] To everyone in charge, except Carl.

I don't expect this thread to last long, but I feel that player bashing on you guys isn't right, and you guys don't deserve that (well, some do obviously).

So, how does working seriously for another individual without a salary feel?

I feel like you guys don't even have a real incentive to work at this place. I know I don't. If it wasn't out of care for the normal players, for the conversations we exchange on the forum, or because you guys have already had a real job already, one would come to think that you guys would have left long ago.

Do you feel like you can do better, if somehow, Carl starts paying you guys, and you can earn a bit on the side for your living?​

This is private server, which means its illegal. So, this server can be closed any time soon.

Being pirate server, paying the Staff members real $$ is illegal action or at least should be done in secret.

You are wrong here dude. They do work hard when they apply for GM. They help/answer questions/stay online for hours/kiss ass of other Staff members. When they become GM, all those 'promises' in their applications fade and they become happy trigger puppets. Ive been GM, Ive seen it and Ive done it in some occations.

The difference between a real game company and Gamez is that GMs got paid in credits per hour of their work. Its not real $$ payment but still they get something in return for their offer. Here in Gamez, GMs are get paid with the 'Thanks' utton from the community...

Need more explanation why GMs here are lazy and inactive?

 

IMO, some were doing their jobs well and some are not, but I dont think they get nothing in return for doing so even if they are just volunteers. Some applied and hired for the purpose of helping the community, but I dont believe its the only reason why they do so. They serve the community not for the sole purpose of helping the community but also themselves. Some wants respect, some do it for power/higher postion in a community. Dont be mad if I said those things but for me its normal for humans, in fact everyone will be happy if they achieved something and people are looking up on them.

That doesnt bother me at all. I like to helps other people specially to latin people that cant understand english (one of the reason about why i did my application) and take care about abusers/hackers cause i was a player (still am but im not playing like before) and i know how irritate is when someone is taking an adventage of bugs or hacks.

What i dont like about being a gm sometimes is getting bashed and blamed by EVERYTHING that happends in game. Like kisk bug, most players cant understand the difference between a dev and am, that's why they dont always are polite and start to bashing you or even question about your knowledge about game.

But im getting used to, before i was very impatience when they started to bash me but now im learning more about some players and im being a more patience person (that's good cause im very impatience in real life )

But still that doesn't bother me cause im helping players with theirs problems.

And like every person i have my good days and bad days.

So, how does it feel? Most of days satisfactory.

Im not the only staff member that is working in game. Everyone are doing theirs "jobs". Just cause most of players dont see them doesnt mean that they are not there.

Maybe im showing myself more but everyone one staff are working always in something. And specially since the last update.

 

Its difficult to separate the people that really care for others and the ones that wants the power button in their hands... power is attractive after all.

Even if there were some sort of payment besides the "thank you, keep going". You cant guarantee that the people that voluntered arent just behind the flashy yellow name.

Just to give you a point of view from someone in Carl's position...

The project I'm on not only pays the two contracted devs that we brought onto our team to assist us (one does quest work, the other some core work and aion control panel stuff), but starting this month we'll be paying our senior gms as well. At least, we'll pay them on the months that we can afford to. It's not going to be a lot for the GMs but it's something to say "thanks, you've put a lot of time into this" and it also motivates them to not do stupid shit because then they miss out on some easy monthly income.

Anyone who greatly contributes to our project gets compensated. I would personally never take work without some sort of compensation. Even the people I have sniff retail for data I compensate (and many times in the past, out of my own pocket) by paying their monthly retail fee.

It truly does blow my mind that Carl has never paid anyone on the Gamez community staff (not to mention the lack of interaction with the community as a whole). It's not surprising that every few months there's a great exodus of gms and new ones fill their place.

Personally as one of the ex-staff members, I would never ask for real money in exchange for my time spent staffing any server. I was even offered it at one point, but denied the opportunity, just because to me it would seem kindof cheap to do so.

But in any case, thats not to say being an AM always pays off. Like Ehp said, players are quick to bash, even if they don't completely understand a situation or the effective powers and abilities of the AM they're talking to. In addition to that, the drama in this community is absolutely astounding, and the worst days in Gamez are the days when you feel like you'll wake up the next morning and all your hair will be gray. Sometimes you know someone deserves a promotion, whether its yourself or someone else, and sometimes you know someone deserves a demotion, (hopefully if this is yourself, you'll stop and say "hey..i'm not good enough for this position, I should step down..D:") but often neither of those happen. Its like wanting to better the server, but the longer you wait the worse the situation gets, and then finally you get a little piece of a cracker but its not enough to prevent starvation. If you beg for food, you get smacked and you won't get fed for an even longer period of time.

All in all, the feeling you get when you help someone out in a great manner, and they visibly show genuine appreciation (not the fake "thanks ^^" that they forget about you within the hour) is nothing short of great and it just makes you feel accomplished. But when most of the time you get false accusations and people on the forums accuse you of problems you may have never played a role in, or you get bashed for things you cannot possibly assist with, or anything of that nature, it just breaks and shatters all your motivation to do anything good. I think anyone that goes staff should have a reason to be staff for this reason. Something that will compel them to live through the fire and flames and persist to do something great. If people continually apply to be staff because they want to be a super cool AM or "woah! I can have my choice of items to wear?! that looks FUN!!" or even simply "hehe i help my guild members all day im sure ill like helping the server ^_^", I don't think they'll be able to really handle the package that comes with being staff on Gamez.

Oh well, thats just my take on it, everyone has their own views and may see it in a completely different light.
