I had a philosophical discussion with a homeless man today.

Well today I was minding my own business eating my kebab in the park and this homeless man came up to me in very friendly way and asked if I could spare him some of what I'm eating. I was in a good mood and he did look hungry so I decided to share my food with him. We started to have one hell of a deep discussion about government and modern society, how now it's more based on building a 'system' rather than carrying our roots and strengthen our society, in his own words he said: "I remember when we use to build shit, but now were just consumers". Few creations now that is open to the masses, could give the impression of unnecessary and just really fill the need of our consuming desires which could enforce us to have more than one job just to make ends meet.

My question is this: Where do you see society heading towards too, does all the new materialistic creations we have around make us less connected to our surroundings, and while being a consumer, does it make us forget the importance of the roots/origins to our original creations that build the world that is today?

Second question: In a industrial country, is it harder to live in today's society or back when it was still building the foundations?

Second Question's Answer: Yes, it may be "easier" to live in a super-developed industrial country, but at the same time it's not. Back when the country was developing its roots, people were interactive, helpful, and engaging with one another. Sure, things weren't as "luxurious" as they are now, but everybody knew eachother. Things simply aren't the same anymore. Instead of greeting eachother on the sidewalk or at the store, our noses are buried in our iPods, BlackBerries, iPads, and our SmartPhones. Living itself may be not as hard, but our actual normal social "life" is starting to consist of staring into a touch screen, reading Facebook to see what our friends are doing, instead of actually joining them. And it's not just that. I remember the days as a child, when going over to your neighbor's yard to play with their kids was such a casual thing. Heck, sometimes the parents would even offer us cold cantaloupe on a hot summer day (It was soooo refreshing). But nowadays, if I try something as small as a friendly wave to my neighbor, I don't get even get a passing glance. It seems like people are much more content to live within their self-sufficient shell. Sure, living is easier, but "life" just doesn't seem the same.

[Sorry for the super long reply xD]

    God, youre so mindscrewing.
You cant blame people for making such creations, we pretty much need majority of them anyways :3
Society will always contain a bunch of selfish btches, not saying that we arent for having to think people didnt like what we had before.
Guess we were either too considerate or too selfish.
Whatever was significant will be remembered, majority will remember the major. Little will remember the minor steps of development of what we live in now. They just go on and just live it, not really realising what's actually been happening

I cant answer your second question, too difficult for me p.p

I don't like produce opinions for already planned/known future. Just we sillies don't know.
Maybe it's a bit surrealist but I believe, we're not heading toward somewhere by our decisions as "society", our industry, market, fashion, consumable, whatever steering society life and head us towards somewhere are decision of some specific groups/parties.

So eventually I'm able to see all answers by watching to world media sometimes, not hard to guess near future instead of your way.

Today creations are just connecting us more than ever. Point is: While doing that, taking control of all our actions and tracking our breathe. We're all together as never been before. Because I can write my opinion here and someone from another country will be able to read it.

It was "never ever" under control of a country. Since B.C.
I suggest you read about Babylonian history, you'll find a lot of answers for today.

Wow, I had an asweome reply typed up and I got an error.

    That pissed me off.

    Tl;dr of what I wrote:

Question 1: Society is going to hellish standards at best. Consumerism is taking over society and we are very abusive to others.

Question 2: If you are rich or disabled society is better now, if you are anything else... then you are going to need to work your ass off to get anywhere.

I'll type up a complete response when I feel like it but

Question 1: Hell yes, today's society is complete and utter filth.

Question 2: Hell no. And people like Aegis live in idealistic worlds. Communism ALREADY failed. Why should someone who works his ass off to get to a great place in society be treated like a lazy bum who decided he was going to start smoking weed in high school? You should be held accountable for your choices, that's what life is. You don't get to get bailed out by the government because you made poor choices. Now saying that, I AM NOT A SOCIAL DARWINIST. I do feel that SOCIETY needs to be improved, and I've created numerous charities, helped raise lots of money, and did my community service. Not everyone gets an option to better themselves. I guess I follow a Carnegian philosophy towards this matter. There should be no individual bailouts and people should be held accountable, but only the people who decided to throw away their lives, not disabled people, people with mental illnesses, or people who were born into that life.

Sorry, but I'm a 100% supporter of Capitalism, and I always will be. There is a reason rich people get to enjoy luxuries most other people don't, and that is because they worked their asses off to obtain it. Now, second generation...thats where my argument gets more intricate, but first generation, no. There is a reason homeless people who win the jackpot don't get anywhere. Like I tell druggies, burn outs, people who purposefully ignore education...life isn't going to bail you out, your decisions will affect how everything plays out, so make the right choices.

    Communism is stupid.

heading towards maturity, eventually society will get pass through everything traumatic experience and then grow mature, like any other process of evolution society will adapt, grow, suffer, then mature, what we create today is a result of our ignorance and eagerness to learn, when society grows mature, we learn to care, we learn to understand others and be much like a superior being.

basically its the same thing, maybe on different level, back when it was still building the foundations, society had to adapt, now its still the same, society is still adapting to the every changing world.

It doesn't matter because the world ends in 2012 anyway.
    LOL/troll.
    No but seriously.
If you look at the question as "Is society any better or worse than it was 400 years ago?" It's basically the exact same. There are those who live with the luxuries and those who have to break their back every day just to get by. Granted the technology we have now may make things more comfortable, but all in all we still have the same ridiculous issues we'll most likely have until the human race is extinct. Humans are born capable of evil and they always will be. In the past there were murderers, rapists, and child abusers just like there is now. Certain things might not have been so "looked down upon" back then simply because there wasn't a wide communication network like we have now. But meh, we'll destroy ourselves eventually >.>

Capitalism will be the end of the world :) people starvin, homeless people etc. That is why I joined the army and still I Only live like a normal middle class average man. Have a house, a car, I pay my bills, but not like I could spend thousands at casinos.

Society is rotting if you don't work hard for it. Typing in forums here all day you won't get a cent.
