I am not quite sure of what your problem is but I am assuming it is the following.

If you log in with your main character, everything is fine, however when you try to switch your character, your game crashes before it even loads, right?

If yes, then please try the following:
1. Repair your Aion, using the NCSoft launcher
2. Start Gamez launcher and let it update
3. DO NOT apply any item.pak so far
4. Restart your computer
5. Check if it works
6. Apply loose item.pak
7. If it works, try the compressed item.pak, if it doesn't refer back to the forum for further help
