So, I know that you weren't thinking about resetting the AP when 3.0 comes out, but in actuality, is a fantastic idea. The new gear will ruin pvp if just immediately shoved into the game. Those who are able to donate for the entire 3.0 sets when they come out will have a significant advantage, as illustrated very well by Alente:

If you do an instant flood of them, it will mess pvp up significantly with those players who aren't able to drop 200$ on a set at any given time. I mean, look what happened to the WoC L2, they got sold for 4.5k credits and were later being traded for 4+ ABG sets which is 40k credits. It will destroy the market, making everyone who wants the sets to desperately trade their 3+ ABG sets so they won't be getting owned by the guy who has magical suppression.

If you reset the AP, players won't be able to use the new sets until they get to rank 1. If I remember last reset, it took me about 3 or 4 days to get rank 1, and that was doing some hardcore pvping. Just getting rank 1 is only 1 part of the challenge; you also have to farm AP so you can augment your weapons.
    What will this do?

    -Balance Market Flood:
There already has been some concerns on how much the new gear/item will and does ruin the market, I have seen multiple threads about it. The reason everyone rushed to get the Wings of the Circle L2 is because if you didn't have it, you were getting owned. This left people getting desperate in the market for a set, lifting to the most insane prices. If no one could use the gear when it first comes out and that they actually have time to collect it, start getting prepared, etc.

    -Massive PvP Surge:
If your players are actively doing something with an incentive, instead of having no rewards from the Arenas, which might I point out, were fun as hell when they first came out, they will find themselves enjoying the game more. They had no incentive to play, and were becoming a waste of time. AP is becoming the same here, who cares? What more can I buy? I just deranked from great general on AP pots for the hell of it. PvP is becoming more and more pointless, with AP not giving anything important anymore. With this release of AP Augmenting, it finally becomes something that will drive people to pvp again.

    - Attraction of More Players:
    This server's 3.0 release is quite popular, and a lot of people are counting down the minutes to start Gamez as soon as 3.0 starts. People usually look for 4 main things in a private server;
    A. Stability
    B. Active Players
    C. Balance
    D. Content

We have quite a large population for a private server, demonstrating a stable server that has lasted for a long time. The problem is that a lot of the pvpers don't come out of their maps to raid anymore because there is no point to it. With nothing driving them to go fight, there isn't any other fighting besides zerging, all the people who enjoy soloing/raiding just hanging out in pandaemonium/sanctum, or just stop logging in. Now that AP is an incentive to get the good gear, you will get a lot of the pvpers out there, and won't have these stupid fights anymore. We won't have the ones where we get feared and then zerged. We won't have the ones where you can never find a 1v1 where you actually need to be careful. We will have players just like you sitting on the opposite race facing off with you, giving a GOOD MATCH. Want to know one of my most favorite pvp memories? Tomodachi vs GotsCandy. It wasn't an official fight, and it's not like we had it arranged, so it's impossible to say either one won. All I can say, that was the most hard, best, and fun pvp fight I have ever had. If there was ever a chance to get another one of those, I would be out pvping every day to find it. If the new players come and see this boom of active players, they will, in-turn, stay.

    - More Retail Like
: I have been seeing that gamez is stressing to become more retail oriented, which in some aspects can be good, but in others can be bad. There is no way that we can accurately get the positive retail aspects while still staying to the high rate gamez positive aspects. The only thing we can do is replicate the experience through an external source. On retail, PvP means something. We need PvP, so we can get AP, and with that AP, we can get new items as a reward for our efforts. As I illustrated before, pvp here has run dry. There is no point to get AP anymore, and PvP is simply a way to waste time in hopes of finding something fun to do. With 3.0 comes AP with a major point; we now need AP to wear and augment our gear. This drives players to get AP, and to actually care about the pvp that they pursue which will actually hold a point. Retail is the same way, you need to farm AP to get the gear, and that is one of the few reasons the PvP is sometimes fun there. This will be able to take the positive aspect of pvp that retail has and replicate it on gamez, without the downfalls that come with the retail way like the absolute time sink in getting the gear, meticulously running instances and always getting owned by someone who has more time then you on their hands.

    - Rewards True PvPers
: Players who know how to pvp, and are good at it after spending a lot of time mastering it, get little to no advantage over the person that spent 100$. It is hard to differentiate those who are actually good at pvp to those who are good at buying their way to the top, one of the true downfalls for free/private server MMOs. Those who play smart and are good at pvp get rewarded by being able to use the new gear sooner then those who sit in the zerg of 20 waiting for the group of 3 to run by in hopes of out- dpsing the other 19 players by using Shadow/Lightburst.

As the reasons above, I strongly believe that we need to get an AP reset when the 3.0 gear comes out. There is currently no point for having AP in the first place, the only reason the players got angry last AP reset is that it wasn't announced; it just got wiped. Give a 3 day notice about an AP reset, and there should be almost no reason why players should have a problem with it, the AP doesn't do anything. I remember the pvp after the AP reset, it was fun. People weren't afraid of dying, hiding in zergs, players were wandering the maps in hopes of fun pvp. I further suggest that this just be a trial run AP reset, and that we should revisit the possibility of an annual reset and the ramifications that would stem from it. This can be discussed at a later date, as there are much more serious problems that would arise from it, namely the inability to use the AP augmented gear for those who only have 1 set. I'd maybe suggest having an X amount of time after the reset that you have to get back to rank 1 till you can't wear it.

The reset will have many positive outcomes, and create a positive gaming atmosphere, even for a little while.

Pointless this thread is pointless. Alente already said there would be no AP wipe at the time of the update.
