Can any body tell me what is the purpose of taunt

Is using taunt in PVP really effective?

or its just designed for PVE????

 

Depends on the taunt. Read the descriptions, some block an attack if you have a shield equipped.

 

Most taunts are designed for PvE to keep the monster's enmity on the Templar (or occasionally Gladiator).

Not all are designed for PvE, some Taunt skills have a sub-effect like LordCurlyFry mentioned that's useful in PvP. There's one that enables you to block a skill, and another that lowers target's attack speed, etc. Doom Lure can even be considered a taunt skill but also has effect of pulling in opponents.

 

+ there's also a taunt that fears other ppl...
yeah taunts are mostly for pve and important during boss hunts.

is not a problem Ms. Akikaze explained it clearly what taunts are ofc true experience comes from using ingame so u can try on frnds or ppl of me for that matter if u need to test or check.

Taunts for PvP; You use taunt on somebody and they be like "OH NO U DIENT" and you be like "OH YES I DID" and taunt again and he comes at you with rage tits and all that jazz, wanting your babies and the like.

Taunt is a skill mainly used to increase the mobs' enmity towards you or other wise called as "Aggro".

Although, there are useful taunts that are not solely for PvE purposes. Namely; Cry of Ridicule which allows you to block 1 attack to trigger your block chain skills, has a 12-cooldown and lasts for 12 seconds as well or until hit. Terrible Howl is a taunt skill that fears them for 4 seconds, if the fear is resisted, the affected gets slowed instead. Your pulls such as Doom Lure and Illusion Chains can be counted as taunts too as they increase enmity as well with a secondary altered state that slows and leaves the target in pulled state. Threatening taunt is my personal favorite because my build goes along pretty well with it. It slows the target's attack speed. Damaging taunts are as follows: Provoking Shield Counter and Provoking Severe Blow.

Other than that, taunts such as Incite Rage, Provoking Roar and Taunt are nonetheless for PvE uses only though I've heard from word of mouth that taunts can toggle godstone procs as well.

Seriously??? ever tryed to do that? if a player already have a target u can use all taunts u have and he wont target u (at least doesnt work at my temp xD). So as other said taunt is useless in PVP is other effects on taunt skills that can help u in combat...
