Deleting a character?

I made a toon, then I didn't like how it turned out so I deleted it, and in hopes of using the same name, I recreated the same toon with the same name but the name was taken. I waited a few hours and it was still taken, so I checked the site and sure enough the name still shows up under "My Characters". Is it just a matter of time until it actually gets deleted or is there another step I have to take?

generally simply restarting your client (close and run again) releases the name and lets you use it again. check your char selection screen though and make sure its really deleted
