Each correct answer = 1 prize.

Multiple answers possible, and multiple prizes may infact be obtained.

#1: Name the amino acid that is a precursor to dopamine. (Hint: T)

#2: Parkinson's disease is commonly correlated to damage with what brainstem part? (Hint: Black)

#3: Without nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, what would we be without? (What do they do?)

#4: What is the primary anatomical atrophy locations in parkinson's disease? (NOT asking specifically, the group name is fine for these structures. Although if you want to be cruel to me you could argue that it does affect more than just those.)

    #5: Dissociate parkinson's disease from:

    -Alzheimers (Disease)
    -Huntingtons (Disease)

    (Worth 1 question correct each.)

#6: On a cellular level, what is unique about parkinsons disease? (Hint: It's something to do with the structure in question #2)

#7: Parkinson's Disease has a few rather interesting treatments. List one and describe it BRIEFLY. (Please no essays lol)

    1. Tyrosene
    2. Substantia nigra (felt bad for chuckling a bit).
    5. -Parkinson's is caused by the substantia nigra not producing dopamine, which causes tremors, slowed movement, stiffness, difficulty swallowing and incontinence.
-Huntington's is caused by degenerative changes to parts of the brain resulting in uncontrolled movements, loss of intellectual faculties and emotional disturbances.
-Alzheimer's is caused by increased production or accumulation of a specific brain protein called beta-amyloid protein in the form of plaques that lead to nerve cell damage, which in turn causes memory failure, disturbed language function and perception of reality.

    1. Tyrosine
    2. substantia nigra (literally meaning "black substance")
    3. The nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) is a ligand-gated ion channel that mediates neurotransmission at the neuromuscular junction, autonomic ganglia and at some sites in the central nervous system and play a prominent role in the control of urinary bladder function (so w/o em we would have no control of our urinary bladder if it's correct )
    4. primary motor cortex (maybeh)
    6. Degeneration of the melanin-containing cells in the pars compacta of the substantia nigra . Cells within the nigra produce dopamine normally. This substance passes—via axoplasmic flow—to the nerve terminals in the striatum, where it is released as a transmitter. It is the absence of this transmitter that produces the Parkinson’s disease.

7.deep brain stimulation - DBS uses a surgically implanted, battery-operated medical device called a neurostimulator—similar to a heart pacemaker and approximately the size of a stopwatch—to deliver electrical stimulation to targeted areas in the brain that control movement, blocking the abnormal nerve signals that cause tremor and PD symptoms.

    5. Parkinson's disease is a movement disorder that progresses slowly, beginning with a sense of weakness and a slight tremor of the head or hands, then gradually progressing to more generalized symptoms. The general symptoms of Parkinson's disease include: Slowness of voluntary movements, especially in the initiation of such movements as walking or rolling over in bed. Decreased facial expression, monotonous speech, and decreased eye blinking.
Alzheimer’s disease is the most common type of dementia. Symptoms of Alzheimer's, including early-onset Alzheimer's, include problems with memory, judgment, and thinking, which makes it hard to work or take part in day-to-day life. As the stages of Alzheimer's progress, memory loss and other signs of Alzheimer's become more apparent. Many people find help with Alzheimer's drugs, but there is no cure for this form of dementia.
Huntington's disease (HD) results from genetically programmed degeneration of brain cells, called neurons, in certain areas of the brain. This degeneration causes uncontrolled movements, loss of intellectual faculties, and emotional disturbance.
