Ok, so as the title reads, this is my very first time touching C# in my life, and I got very little experience in coding in general, if any. Only experience I have is from tampering with we page source codes, and small stuff like that. This is the first time I've built something in any language, and I decided using C# because I had interests on it from a college class where it was mentioned. I'm using Visual Studio '10 for this.

OK, so let me explain a little bit about my code first. I decided to make a relatively simple program using Winforms where the program would calculate my monthly college bill. I use two comboboxes, a checkbox, and a normal button.

    Code:

Ok, so I guess my questions would be:
I want the checkbox to always see wether it's checked or not. as I have it right now, it only checks if it was touched before pressing the calculate button. I tried simply putting the IF inside the Finishbutton_Click part, but it gives me an error saying "LaboratoryCheck_CheckedChanged does not exist" or something like that. I cannot really figure that part out.

I would also like for the comboboxes to not give the user the option to write on them. I didn't find anything quite like it on the Toolbox, but I may have missed something.. I'm not sure honestly.. all I want is for the user to only have the options in the dropdown list.

I would also like to know if I'm doing everything right, or if there's something I'm missing, or if there are more efficient ways of doing it. As I said before, I'm completely new to this stuff, but I really want to learn this sht lol. I didn't necessarily picked the easiest language to start with, but hey, at least the code works LOL..

    Thanks in advance ^.^

Zero knowledge of C# here, but fluent in other languages.

Have you tried messing around with any Checkbox classes? I didn't see any references to any Checkbox classes so I'm assuming that you haven't attempted to import any classes yet. Maybe you should try messing around with some classes and see where it takes you? Even if you don't finish it, it would give me something to work with.

If your calculating just your own monthly bills.

Why not use Excel, or OpenOffice Calc...or a spreadsheet. Generally those are much more flexible and will allow for input gathering from across multiple sources and input / outputs.

If you would rather do that, I wouldn't mind helping you out with it.
