I think he meant something else as in how to set your avatar and signature in the forums. Right next to the "Log out", click "Settings". Then scroll down and in the left you will see a list and there should be "Edit avatar", insert an URL of the image or upload whatever you have downloaded in your pc. After that you can see "Edit signature", you will have to get the image URL to insert a signature, for you will have to upload your picture on photobucket/imgur/tinypic etc and copy the URL from that. Click the button right next to "Earth with a red cross" and insert the link.
