Illusions of Summer days.

"Think of it this way: a person - especially someone you like or love - is like a Christmas tree. You want to decorate it with all these fantastic ornaments and fall in love with it. But once something doesn't click, when reality doesn't match up with your expectation, when the tree isn't as good as you once think it is, there really isn't anything left to do but remove the decoration and stuff the tree in the trash can."

That was the single line at the group discussion at the end of (500) Days of Summer, a movie session which I had the privilege of attending, that I paid attention to.

Tom Hansen was a boy that believed in a special someone, and his life would never get better unless that special someone walks into his life someday; Summer didn't. Tom was so disillusioned with the kiss, the sex, the good times they spent together (and he could have very well been quite honest about loving her too.) I can't say that he didn't have it coming; he really was given a warning by Summer herself beforehand.


And still, I can't get over the thought that Tom was really pitiful.



Nonetheless, the movie changed my perception on romantic comedy. (500) Days of Summer isn't your average, usual romantic movie where a Princess and a Prince walk into the sunset and live happily ever after.

It reminds us of how unexpected, cruel, yet sweet and hopeful life in reality is.

 

500 days for nothing..

 

i fell asleep nearly halfway of that movie.
my wife tho was able to finished it.

 

I actually came for the free food, but left satisfied <3
