We live in a world where everything seems to be connected. We hear, feel, smell, and taste.

However, there is the question of what is real, and what isn't.

I would like to say that reality is a figment of our imagination. We perceive what we want to think is real. Yet nothing is.

If there is a visible state of how things are in their true existence then I don't think our brains are capable of generating that image because of unknown factors.

That's my thought on reality and false perceptions.

    What's yours?

Oh, and remember this is the serious discussions thread, so if you go off topic you will be banned. I want to see how useful this section in the forums is when everyone feels they'll get banned for saying the wrong thing as well.

When you see a brown table, you are not seeing the brown color... you are seeing a bouncing of light. Meaning: Objects have properties of their own, one of them is that it absorbs light and when a full light spectrum hits the table all its absorbed except the brown... this bounce of light is what you see.

The time of an image to go from our eyes to our brain and then back, its not light speed, its not instantaneous... so this delay means we do not see things in real time, so our brains fills and interpolates the missing gaps so what we see looks like in real time.

So as you can see, with so many interpretations made by our brain, and we all know it can be decieved, it can be tricked, it can assume things if our beliefs are strong enough... (there is people that believes to see, that scares me)

Our real self is not in direct touch with reality, our brain makes that assumption based in the info it gets from our several sensors (vison, hearing, smell, taste, feelings, tact).. and it creates a sense of being alive and that we exist in this real "world".

    hehe... nice right?

    What is reality, huh?

Well, reality is how your brain to 'reads' the signals that it receives from the entire body every second. So for everyone reality is different since we all got so many differences between us but we all try to look 'normal' like the others (how to eat, what to wear, how to speak/read etc.) because we are told to do so since when we were kids.

People are afraid of something different, something new, something that they are not in position to understand or to accept as reality. That's why some people among us are called crazy~

Actually, it takes time for the light to bounce from the object, time for the brain to analyse and time for your counsciousness to realize that.

Reality? There's no such thing: everyone sees everything in a different way (I mean sees/hears/tastes/smells/etc.). People getting closer to reality than the other are just special.

Light time to reach our eyes is light speed.. unless we are talking in astronomycal distances where light might take millions of years to reach us.... But back in our normal world, light from things near us is in light speed terms, so it is instantaneous, or very close to that, even the bounce of light over an object. The difference with our brain and senses, is that info moves at electric speed... wich is far more slower than light speed.. ergo, causing the delay between reality and our brain interpretating all that.

And even if life its experienced in different a way by everyone... there is the unquestionable truth that, we are here, and we are aware of our own existance in a physical universe... There is a reality. what we want to know if that reality is what we feel and sense.. or something else entirely.

It's not something else entirely, nor reality. It's somewhere between, we see a fraction of reality, but that's it. Just because people's sense of reality differ is a good enough reason to tell that we don't see it completely.

Could be, could be not... we must remember that "interpretations" are of subjective matter, its how we "see" things... not necesarily how things are. And reality its a total objetive matter, it is what it is. The whole deal with the senses and interpretations occurs exactly because we are beings that see things in a subjectives and objectives way. And depending in some traits, we tend to bend in one way or another.

We are the ones that cant see the full reality, we are the ones that are limited by our senses and interpretations or everything we percieve. But reality is there, you cant deny it.

Don't get it wrong, I don't deny that reality exist, but that the reality as we see it is a fake. In this subjective world, we can just interpretations and hope they are true. That's what we're discussing here about, too, about our different interpretations.

Reality is defined by what YOU see , feel , hear , etc.
Everyone has different realities , as i see it.

Then if reality is supposed to be one single whole thing, how comes it isn't? (I don't want an "everything is part of it" answer). If reality is defined by what YOU see, then bilions, or even trilions of realities exist. That can do just for a "sentimental" and figurate way, not for a logic one.

There is no need to find logic seed in everything (hard tho , considering that i try to find it all the time) . Reality exists because people exist , and since all of us are different i do believe that each has a different reality , an own way to see things , and own way to perceive all that surrounds him/her.
But that's just my thought ^^

Reality existed since the beggining of the Universe, will last untill its end. Reality DOES exist without people. I know what you're thinking, it's just that... that is not reality, but the interpretation of it. :)

    And that's my point .... i see my reality , u see yours :p
We have different descriptions about it.
U cannot deny mine since u do not know it and i cannot deny or see yours since i don't know it .
Anyways great subject to talk about ^^
Thanks to the thread maker xD

And thanks to the people who keep it alive? xD
It's just that even time is not real... you think that time passes much faster when you're playing or having fun, and while you're bored time is passing much slower. It's all about perception.

All that you are saying is true... am not saying its wrong. But its for you, its your personal viewing which is absolutely right.

Everyone else see reality in personal context wich makes it different to everyone, according to everyone personal perceptions and understandings.

But you cant deny the fact that there is a general physical universe, in which to base all of our perceptions, that is what this is all about... if you throw a dice you see clearly the number that is faced towards you... you dont see the other 5 possibilities that it contained... our perceptions are the same, we can only see one face of the dice at a time and we make an idea of what the other sides are, but we are never sure.. thats how we define our reality... or at least me. The illusion of it, comes from the assumption we made of the faces or possibilities we dont see... thats the subjective part of our reasoning. Is what we interpretate, but the physical universe is there... and its something objective... you cant deny its existance. What you can deny its the way our senses and perceptions works to interpretate that physical universe.

What I just posted might sound logical or very basic, even stupid--- but many people fail at this.

You cant imagine how many people deny reality... And how many many people tries to imposse their own to the rest... Its hard to have common sense and to separate the inner world from the outer... and its more frightening that people listen and believe to those that try to change and impose a reality towards others... You cant change the fact that ultimately we choose what to believe.

Agree. Of course there is a general reality on which we make assumptions. But I believe we're far from the truth. Who knows how many colours may there be (Bulls se only in black/white, there might be a difference from our perception to reality as it is from bulls to us) or the sounds we can't hear, et cetera.
