What generosity can get you

In light of my event specifically asking people to be nice, I have to also suggest that people don't try to be nice IRL by doing stupid things you'll regret later on.

ie: Feel sorry for a friend that needs to pay bills for his apartment, write him a $300 check, bank denies it because I didn't have $300 in my checking account. Not only had I asked Bank of America if it would process and they said yes, but I also warned him that it may not go through, and if it didn't I'd try to give him some cash instead, but wasn't sure when or if I'd be able to.

Now..What happens? He gets pissed and gets desperate because he still needs to pay his bills, despite his own failures to do so, he takes advantage of me and the fact that I had wrote him a check of all things (never write checks if you can avoid it, okay? its a stupid decision), he takes it to the sheriff's office and turns me in for "writing a bad check".

Now I'll have a warrant for my arrest in 3~ days unless I come up with $300 ;_;. Oh well, I'll figure out a way, other people have worse moment's in life so I can hardly say my life is terrible or anything, in fact its pretty great and I'm proud of that, but I think I'm done giving people things out of generosity that they can use to take advantage of me. I'll still be nice, how couldn't I be, but people are dicks, even if you aren't one to them.

Sorry for the rant, needed to let it out.

That's a simple case to close. If you didn't have enough balance on your account when he went to cash the check, the bank can provide your balance up to the date of the check-cashing event. If there was no sufficient balance on that day, then you're all set and there is nothing your "friend" can do about it, he'll just be embarrassing himself.

Yea that is terrible..you are a good person, you did something i probably wouldn't even do for my mama if she was losing her house.. xD but anyways i hope you can get that money to avoid being arrested and as for your friend.. As hard and stupid as this may seem..forgive him. Don't trust him no more but..forgive him.

I can't believe someone would do something so dirty... has happened to me before. It is so lame! (Not the cheques mind you, but I almost was removed from my education because of a dirty "friend" who thought it was funny to slander my name BIG time.)

Can't you just tell the cops that your check was a loan from you to your friend?

I know I wouldn't call him a friend after he/she pulls that bullshit.

 

Well I'm going to pay it off somehow anyway, its a debt to pay and I don't want any trouble from the police, however I'm also pretty sure he blackmailed me (threats to report me, wanting extra money, etc.) so I'm potentially going to turn in my phone as evidence of that while making the payment. I don't consider him as a friend anymore, but I'm not going to live life on regrets, I'm just going to forgive him (as suggested), move on and never speak to him again.

But seriously your friend was desperate and i think he is dying to pay the rent... but it was a bad move to turn in your friend.... i hope he realize what he did....

 

I don't think you need to try to get back at him or anything...personally, I would just let it be and move on.

Of course, my dad would agree, saying that shows weakness and shows that you let people walk all over you. Which I guess in essence it does, and he's the one who became successful, not me .

And yeah, that's life: people are greedy, people are desperate. You'll meet a lot worse by the time everything is all done and over with.
