Mojang just released this video of their new feature in an upcoming patch for minecraft which allows you to completely customize the type of map which will be generated when you create a new world.

They have lots of awesome things you can do, ranging from gigantic mountain formations that you'll never see now, super big cave formations, or..a water world map where EVERYTHING is covered in a massive ocean, but theres mountains and stuff deep under the ocean, so you can build your own Atlantis!

Even better! Now it also has the feature to select which biome you want to use for the map, here's a still pic of the map details page

 

Thank god, you will no longer have to google "best minecraft seeds"

 

I've tried minecraft a cpl times in the past. Never managed to build anything good. I just remember barely getting a little shack type thing built right before night, and I would hide in there when the monsters came out.

 

Im kinda bored to google this, but what kind of game is Minecraft? I've heard about it a lot of times, the graphics seem terrible? What exactly do you do there? Hack some trees and rocks? What is the goal?

 

It's actually weird that a game like Minecraft can be so addicting, all you do is build stuff, survive, and build other stuff..

That's until you discover mods and multiplayer and find out that Minecraft is such a fun game.

The graphics are absolutely terrible, but the gameplay can be fun. Its not for everyone, really its just a game which has two aspects to it

1) Theres constant, continual progression. You go around collecting new ores and materials and stuff (which can take a LONG time, but you're so into the moment that you don't even consider the time) to get better equipment so you can survive longer and mine faster.

Once you mine faster and survive longer, you can spend even longer in the wild and get even more materials!

2) You use all this collection of materials to build anything you want. You can build a base in a mountain, a floating fortress, whatever!


The basic point is, its a giant adventure because you're in these huge maps which have crazy landscapes you'll never see in real life, and you use your imagination to build what you want.

Since the game effectively runs off of your imagination, the possibilities are endless and that is why so many people enjoy it.

Also, you can modify the textures, they'll always be blocky and weird, but you can make things look good.

 

I've always tried to understand the fun in minecraft but no one ever explained it to this extent and now I'm curious and I'll buy it from the app store, thanks.

 

Keep in mind the iphone version and PC are going to be completely different >.> theres a certain limit to how big the world can be on iPhone, but I hope you enjoy it

NOOOO don't buy the iPhone app! You're very restricted, you can't do much, and with just 20 bucks you can buy the PC thing and have mods and multiplayer and all that!

 

Yeah honestly I love minecraft and I have fun in the minecraft apps, but they're only good for minor boredom because SO MUCH is limited. If you really want to try it out, just pirate a pc version and if you like it, buy the game so you can play on servers with other people

I don't even have a server or save file and its more fun to start from scratch

 

I posted before about when I "started from scratch". I spent the first day rushing around trying to get materials for the basic mud blocks.

And then I just barely managed to build a little wood hut shack thingy right as it got dark which I hid in when the monsters came out. I had no idea how to craft anything so I didn't have any windows, light, or a door.

We should make a Gamez Group Minecraft server.

 

You know that's a really good idea. I could host an unofficial mine craft server but it'd be better if it was officially supported

 

What would it take to get an officially supported one? Just a subscription or something.

And I can see it now. Gamez Minecraft. Donation shop has outfits, rare diamond stuff and everything else that is super rare in minecraft.

By unofficial I mean I could host one myself, official would be if carl decided to include it in gameznetwork

 

An unofficial server will be fine. We can use a different name though. I really don't see carl springing to make an officially official gamez minecraft server.
