I hate the 3.0 sets and items. Coz I can't freaking afford one.

 

This information is incorrect.

ABG will not possess any set effects whatsoever in 3.0 nor is it meant to so that's certainly not a valid argument for calling it better.

It's also worth noting that "abg is still better armor for a dps set than the 3.0 armor" is an outright fallacy - the level 60 set is better for DPS than ABG across all armor types by the look of it. L60 armor has higher attack, accuracy, and magic boost than ABG.

It appears ABG has slightly higher physical defense than level 60, approximately a 10-14% difference depending on armor type, however the overall difference from that is pretty marginal considering the formula on defense to physical damage.

The massive advantage of L60 over ABG though is Magic Suppression. ABG has a grand total of 0 MS while the L60 Chain set boasts around 600. The L60 cloth set has over 900. Magic Suppression acts as a counter-agent to enemy Magic Boost and should have a pretty significant effect when used.

The rest of L60's stats across the board (MR/Evasion/MBoost/PvPDef/Concentration/HP/Attack/Accuracy) are all higher also.

ABG will still be useful however those sporting the new 60 set will certainly have an advantage.

 

I truly hope I'm misinterpreting this. Are you saying that--after a year, possibly more--you are taking away the custom ABG set effects just because there is something newer and shiner that can be marketed? I understand the server is going for the "retail feel", but even so, the custom bonuses shouldn't have been implemented in the first place if that's truly the case. Gamez is passively forcing people into purchasing the new items at what will no doubt be outrageous prices just to be able to compete on equal grounds in the only aspect of the game with any longevity---PvP. That's borderline extortion. This is...just..wrong.

Those bonuses are a remnant of an old development branch I introduced back in 2.0 when ABG was first coming out and actually had lower stats than L50 PvP before NCSoft fixed it. There simply hasn't been a need to update the item_sets as no new sets had been introduced since then so we forgot about the old bonuses.

As 3.0 has new sets with new set bonuses that old file is being overridden with corrected data. The fact that you may have benefited from our forgetfulness resulting in a bug so far doesn't mean you're entitled to it =p

Yes all new set effects work. As does AP augmentation for augmentation pieces.

 

Well i totally agree with this, even more if the L60 Sets have such a better variety of stats +MS that abg has 0 why remove the bonus effect of ABG?, removing the effect will cause abg to be weak vs the lv 60 set making it of course good for the server owner and destroying a kind of balance in game. making whoever has credits/Money more powerful for quite a long time until most people would get a full set.

 

Claiming broken balance because a bug you've been enjoying has ceased to exist and armor sets are now back in-line with how they were designed seems like a silly concept.

Well I just hope that those lvl 60 pvp sets are not too overpriced and possible to be acquired by everyone in a matter of months or within a year just like ABG's.

Players should learn to adapt to changes. We all know ABG is not an end-game item and it is only proper that we adapt to changes brought about by lvl 60 gears. Magic Suppression is I think one of the big advantage having a lvl 60 items than ABG's. It would be ironic if ABG would still be better than a lvl 60 pvp items isn't it?

This...not so true. Unless you've abcinated, deafened, and caused an aneurism in every member of staff who has the capability to change the code which allows the bonuses, no one forget that they were there. Especially since everyone who plays, be they members of staff or regular players, can plainly see in big, orange, extended text "EQUIP EFFECTS". It's also been brought up on the forums many, many times.

If it seems like a silly concept, it's because it is. Though, not for the "things are retail like" reason, but because the players, new and old alike, have become accustomed to the set effects and rely on it. Especially with 3.0, it's more so now than ever. There is no need to try and conceal the nature of the decision, because we all know it's solely done for money. It's just...devastating, is all. From any logical business standpoint, when you bone a client this bad, the only projected outcome is an efflux of current customer base and an impedance of inflow.

This I guess is the truth everyone's avoiding to hear.

 

The only people with the ability to change the sets templates on our live servers are myself and Carl, not even our developers have the authority to do so. Incase you didn't notice neither Carl nor myself tend to have the free time required to actively play Aion and when we do we're certainly not number crunching gear sets.

The "Equip Effects" that some users see in-game on ABG are purely client-sided due to the same item.pak being recycled over and over across versions in some guides. I haven't seen ABG set effects in my client since 2.0 since I use my own item.pak file.

People seem to make a great deal of assumptions as to what they think is common knowledge and what is actually discussed at a managerial level.

You realize of course that it was me who called for the item_sets to be refreshed with 3.0 so the new L60 sets would function correctly right?

You also realize I don't actually get monetary compensation for my time right? The amount of money you donate couldn't be any less relevant to my interests. I care about maintaining as much balance and overarching fairness as I can manage, what you choose to do with your credit card is the absolute least of my concerns.

We refreshed the set bonuses to ensure 3.0 gear was working fully as intended before releasing it to our users. The fact that this corrected an old bug is merely a plus. Any arguments as to how users are "entitled" to continue abusing a bug that skews gear design just because it's convenient to them seems awfully shallow to me.

I really must get back into the habit of closing threads after I post in them to avoid these lengthy back-and-forth chats.

ABG wont have any bonus stats on 3.0. It will return on its original form - ordinary. So lets begin to save up again or donate. :3
