Can't use the LFG Channel

For a fix that works BUT isn't very.. quick, you can tell your friend to re-download his client using the 4.8.0.4 torrent.
Versions over that, (in his case 4.8.0.5), will mess with the client and you will not be able to see the LFG as you've already read. We currently have no downgrade but we're working on something to fix the problem so all your friend can do until then is download the torrent with the correct version.
