d3d8thk.dll is a Trojan when I download the launcher from the website.

Give me a legit source telling me that this is not a harmful Trojan.

 

I wasn't able to find the source code of the dll. Speaking on behalf of the entire GA Staff, none of the launcher's components are malicious in any way.

Edit: it is possible that your antivirus software recognizes it as a trojan because it injects code into the Aion executable upon launch. Nothing to worry about.

 

What type of firewall/protection program are you using? There is no possible way that there are any malicious files as Razor said. Could just be your program overreacting. I, for one, know that Norton likes to be quite... frivolous with its accusations.

Antivirus aren't know for being smart. They will just follow a pattern to identify a file and regard it as malicious. That pattern is in that file and since is not certified the program just do what is supposed to and trigger the alarm.

Same happens with most of the Keygen programs used for *ehem* authorize software of doubtful, not certified origin.

Fear not, it isn't a trojan. Create an exception in your antivirus/firewall/antimalware and all should be good.

 

Norton isn't exactly a good antivirus. Neither is Symantec or McAffee. If you don't believe me on McAffee, here's what the creator of McAffee has to say about it:

jokes aside (he is the creator, though), d3d8thk is modified to redirect the client to the Gamez servers from what I understand. that file change might be what triggers crappy norton, but who knows....
