Oh boy, Oh boy.

Look what we have here. This topic started out as a decent conversation. It really did that I believe. However, in some form or way as with everything that is being handled as a decent discussion topic it got turned into a sewer pit.

Now. Since everyone seems to be so hopped up on discussing stereotypes and everything considering that is what this thread pretty much about right? Some silly, stupid generalization that is meant to encompass people. Well how about we start with the country I live in, the United States. Hmm. Off the top of my head I can think of a few myself, and guess what. They are ALL the same as what you would say others are. Loud, Obnoxious, etc,etc,etc.

Actually, if you want to. How about you take a look at how other countries or people view you or would 'stereotype' you before you go pulling out the same for other people. I can almost assure you that if you bother to give two moments of thought to that you would find that the same could be said of anyone from anywhere else in the world. Can you have an opinion, yes, of course. That is based on what you see from the very few people you meet or chat with in a game. Is that the correct way of thinking? It is of course subjective and a case to case base.

Not ALL US Citizens fit the 'stereotypical' but there are probably a lot that do. The same again, can be said for everywhere in the world. Before you bother to say something, I would suggest taking a look at how you, or more in general, how it would feel to be generalized just because of something that transpires in an online game. Not everyone is able to let things go like you or if you were so generalized, would you be able to be calm, collected, and such if a person or persons were to constantly generalize you or your country?

Personally? I find at least around where I live there are people who fit the 'American' stereotype and yes I detest them. There are some who fit other ones as well, however the first impression is not always correct and in the course of my own life, I will most likely never have to deal with them again. While yes, this is an MMO and you do see the same players and people when you log in to play, that has no bearing on how they are outside of the game. Again, you will only ever really meet them while playing.

If you were to see them outside on the street? If they happened to be your friend outside of the game, and neither of you knew each other played the same game. You would be lumping your own friend with a stereotype. And that would be a person who you knew and are friends with. So, how about we actually think able the meaning and perception of stereotypes and their use before we go and start throwing them around. It is getting quite old on the forums and in game.
