I have been through a couple of fishing poles and can say that the fishing isn't so reliable, when using a Thermian Fishingpole, the very best of all fishingpoles you can get in the game, you do not gain more rare fish than when using a Steel Fishingpole, as well as using Energy when casting out the fishing lure does not seem to affect fishing at all.
My character does have Master Fishing by the way, which I do think might make a difference.
The Fishing Hotspots are not indicated in the game-world as the information online suggests, which makes it quite difficult to nearly impossible to finish some fishing quests which lead to much more rewarding quests later on.

I am just hoping for some more feedback on where to fish for Black Porgy as well as Spotted Sea Bass, because after actively fishing (and auto-fishing) at the different sites, according to the information on the matter, no significant difference is to be had, especially the Hotspot indicators that would make it possible to fish for those two types of fish :(

I have JUST caught the famous Black Porgy right at the missing fishing hotspot marker (South of Angie Island according to: http://nuwavefishbdo.blogspot.com/2016/09/hot-spot-post-9-black-porgy-balenos.html), so I do believe the hotspots are there but just not visible :D

    I found this on Reddit:
"are hotspot locations pre-determined. (To specify, will they spawn at the exact same location/coordinates everytime?)
Correct, once again refer to somethinglovely.net and tick the Fishing Hotspots for all the spots :)
    Are hotspot timers a thing?
I believe each hotspot lasts for 30minutes roughly. Although you could be unlucky and find a hotspot that's already been active for 25 and only get 5 minutes"

Apparently I was just insanely lucky with the Black Porgy catch at the location since the Fishing Hotspots, that we cannot see yet, disappear after 30 minutes, since I couldn't see the hotspot I was just in the Right place at the Right time. Unfortunately this also means that I can keep fishing at the location I think is the right one forever and never ever catch the fish I want because I cannot know whether there actually is a Hotspot or if it is active at all :argh:

Any update on whether this is a fixable thing or whether I should just abandon this futile quest?

I believe the hot spots are not yet in gamez. I say this because a fishing hot spot is a place where you will also not catch any trash or white value fish. I know of a couple of places that on retail are always hot spots, and both of these are indeed not hot spots here.

Thanks for the update, I have no idea how I caught the Black Porgy then, I went to the exact spot on the link map and sure it took a little maneuvering at first but then all of a sudden I caught the one type of fish for the "Fish for the Villagers" quest, I was using a triple float at the time so I cauth two in one go, I stopped fishing because I could not store the live fish anywhere for the 3 day quest rotation, so I cannot say for sure if that indeed was a Hotspot or not. Maybe I can find it again, or someone can go look for themselves :)

The one and only way to know if it's a hotspot or not is to fish for awhile and see if you get any white fish or trash. If yes, it's not a hotspot for sure.
