How do I make workers work?

Ok, for starters I honestly had no idea what I should title this thread as and no it's not a troll. I'm legitimately this stupid.
I've been bustin' my burger buns trying to gather the materials to build a boat, and apparently the resources required aren't on the market. I thought about buying the fishing boat from the pearl store but it says it's a decoration, so I dunno if it gives me a boat or just decorates one.
I wanted to send a worker out to this goblin mine I just connected to Velia, but I have no idea how. I've googled tutorials and guides and, while most of it is either complete garbage or says a lot but doesn't tell me anything, I still can't figure it out. One guide said to go into the node and click the resource I wanna gather. It said a window should pop up to send a worker but when I click it, nothing happens.

Seriously, how do I make my workers work?

Nvm. I figured it out lol... None of the guides say that you have to dump points into the resource too. Whoever wrote those guides are jerks XD
