Bunch of weaboos and nerds in this thread

I'd live in the present because we've come so far as a society, have so many technological advances and things get better day by day. We have so much to look forward to, why would you possibly want to go back to a time that has less?

People have a tendency to pick up on the greatest ideology of a certain era and think it was amazing, because you've heard stories, but you do realize that those stories have already glossed over the bad? All those tales of heroes of the past, and golden days of prosperity may have a slight truth to them, but they're also exaggerated. Only the victors got to write history so while you may hear of some amazing hero who saved his country, what actually may have happened is he was a bloodthirsty brute who reveled in the slaughter of innocents and played a big role in the surrender of a battle.

What you guys actually want is to live in a fantasy game world with infinite lives and waifus to breed with. Nerds

Well the AVERAGE life span was pretty low, but that was due to high infant and children mortality rates. For the most part, even if you were a noble, you had a one in three chance of making it past 18. BUT, if you did survive that long, then you most likely would have lived for at least another 50 years. The middle ages weren't all dirt, grime, shit, plague, wars because House Assholes insulted House Jackasses at a dinner party.

For one thing, many peasants actually ate very well, they got to work from the home,(either on their farm, or in a shop making goods that they would sell to couriers working for the merchants and other people, and they had a LOT more holidays and time off. Especially when you compare it to "murica" in which most jobs only give you a weeks paid vacation after one year or work. So it had its advantages.

But imagine the video games that will come out 50 years from now! :O

Yeah, that wouldn't be cause for seppuku. Seppuku was reserved for samurai and daimyo(lords) and other people of high rank. It was a very detail oriented and solemn ceremony, in which the individual committing seppuku(to regain lost honor from committing a crime or losing a war) would ceremoniously impale himself with a knife and cut his stomach in the shape of a cross, upon which his "second" would behead to end his suffering.

Mere peasants would not perform such ceremonies, most likely they would just get cut down on the spot if they severely offended a samurai or lord.

Also another fun fact, even though they were the wealthiest people, the merchant class was considered to be the LOWEST class of society. Even below the farming peasants, laborers, small town villagers, and even the street bums. This was because while those other guys may be poor, they actually WORKED WORKED for what they have. The merchants were regarded as having no honor because they profited immensely from the work of others, by buying things at low cost and then jacking the profits up. So generally if a peasant and a merchant were out in public together, the peasant would be the one getting more respect.

    Isn't history fun!?

Too bad loyalty is only important for the Samurai and not many others back then. Also have fun being locked in peasant class all your life no matter how smart, capable, or ambitious you were thanks to Hideyoshi Hashiba AKA Hideyoshi Toyotomi enacting strict laws to prevent class jumping.

Though you can still be a ninja as most ninja were peasants that were sick of getting shit on by the Samurai and other classes, or descendants of Mushu Nanren, which were assassins from China that were mostly made up of Shaolin Monks that either left the order or were cast out for breaking certain rules or laws.

Now as for what era I would like to live in, well considering I believe in reincarnation and have thus lived in some or all of the eras previously mentioned I'm gonna have to say fast forward a few hundred years to Star Trek era. Kewl spaceships that go ZZZZOOOOOOOOOMMMM and PEW PEW PEW PEW BOOM! KABLOOIE!, a backlog of video games to play with the best graphics, and the best part

HOLODECKS! Computer, run program, Sexxay Catgirl Harem number 7.

Things get better? You mean we find easier ways to destroy ourselves. While technological advances are neat and shiny, they don't exactly make the world a better place. I don't see any advances in riding the world of poverty or violence, if anything it's getting worse. People get stupider and stupider as time goes on. The obscene reliance on technology grows stronger and what's trending on twitter is more important than education. 45% of American's don't know the sun is a star. 77% Believe in angels. At this rate in a hundred years we'll all be down syndrome babies being taken care of by robotic slaves our ancestors created.

That's why Star Trek era is best era. Crime and Poverty have been eliminated. Technology is advanced, clean, and efficient so all the nice plants and animals aren't suffering. You get the cool ships.

    And of course Holodecks

And yet we (slowly) become more understanding of each other, provide more opportunities for education and healthcare, and generally progress as a society. We have a lot of stuff to improve on, but it's better than it ever has been. Stupid people will be stupid no matter what the circumstances, but at least we're giving more opportunities so that those that care can have the same chances as the idiots who pass them up. Also, the internet gave way to social media which you seem to regard as a bad thing but it connects us to the world and again allows those with interest to learn more about any subject imaginable, or just to learn more about the world.

Please don't tell me you too think you were born in the wrong generation anon? *tips fedora*

Anyway, every day there's something new going on that makes you think the world is destroying itself, but aside from nukes and environmental damage, we're for the most part at a better point than we ever have been as a global society. We can look to the future with longing to hope that it will deliver us from all the shitty stuff going on in the present, but we don't know what it has in store for us yet, and looking to the past is silly.

A strange cure for uncureable diseases ? You just won a ticket to the nearest pyre. Enjoy getting burned alive for witchcraft because the peasants don't understand how this magical little bean called "viagra" works.

THis thread got way too serious and cringy for a Hot Spam thread..at least beastie is compensating.
