hello. an error message keeps popping up after pressing start in the client to launch BDO. the smartguard window appears and the game attempts to start, then shortly afterwards this appears:

    bdoerror.png

    i've tried:
    - force checking files
    - adding gamezBDO.exe as an exception to my antivirus
    - disabling antivirus entirely
    - reinstalling
    - reinstalling c++ files
    - changing DNS settings
    - restarting router/modem

my gamez and client version is 2308. i do not use a vpn.

BitDefender has some issues with the GamezBD code, so you would need to uninstall it, also the Windows 10 Defender is adequate as an anti-virus, so there is no need to add additional third party anti-virus programs anymore :)

i use McAfee. (yea ik it's shitty)

i don't use bitdefender. i tried completely uninstalling my antivirus, not sure if that would make a difference but i figured i'd try. the same window still comes up.

using a VPN still results in the same window. i tried connecting to NA and EU servers both in the client and using the VPN. no change.

Have you tried to redownload it/force check when you don't have McAfee? McAfee is notorious to deleting everything with no regard to exception and turning it off rule. Just like Norton and Bitdefender

i ran force check without McAfee, as well as with and without a VPN running. no change.

What version of windows are you running? Windows 10 2004 is incompatible with the current version of SmartGuard so it throws errors.

Edit: you said you changed the DNS settings but have you tried to flush your dns?

    i'm running windows 10 pro v. 1909.
when i said i changed the DNS before, i was referring to changing it to google's public DNS servers.
i just tried flushing my DNS cache. still getting the same thing.

This is really strange. Is Windows Defender or the windows firewall on? If they are turn them off.

I would not recommend turning the Windows Defender or Firewall off myself, since it works just fine with them on with the exception, but I would advise to use the "Run as Admin." function, on the Launcher and BDO file.
One last thing, are trying to run it in a Virtual application of any sort?

so, i've tried running as admin on the gamezbd launcher as well as the original bdo file several times. both of them end up with the same result.
i don't use any kind of virtual machine, if that's what you're asking. im going to try a clean install again, 'cause why not, i guess.

Sorry didn't see the response before, but I would suggest that you download the GamezBD version through one of the alternate download links: http://forum.gameznetwork.com/threads/download-mirrors-client-v2308-community-provided.210022/

That way you can leave a copy of the game somewhere else, and that would make it easier to re-install (or just copy), in case the game misbehaves again.

One last thing...When you say "...original BDO file..." I just want to clarify that you cannot use any other version but the Full GamezBD-game version to connect to the servers. Any and all other versions are incompatible.

i'll try that. the clean install i just tried didn't work.
sorry for the miscommunication. what i meant when i said original bdo file was the black desert application in the client files. i figured i might as well try it in addition to the launcher.
    the results were the same.

Hmmm, you are going to have to have a talk with @Kolka then, think he is the only one qualified to help out at this point.

the alternate download didn't work, either.
i'm not sure if this changes anything, but an application like discord recognizes the game every time i try to launch it. the window just pops up and doesn't let it start.

Is BDO the only game with smart guard you have issues with? Can you reset your network settings?

i just reset my network settings and i'm still getting the same thing.
i'll download the non-gamez bdo and try to log into the original server to see if it works. last time i played it worked just fine, but that was a long time ago.

edit: bdo on the original server works just fine. idk of any other games that use gameguard, but im willing to download them and give them a try to see if it's a problem with that software.

I thought the retail version used xigncode3 tho the last time I played retail was back in 2017 so I could be wrong. I honestly can't even think of any other game. Smartguard kind of sucks. A lot of 3rd party anti cheats do. And I honestly believe its smart guard that's preventing you from doing anything. Could you tell me the file size of your PAZ and bin64 folder?
