Do a system restore or try booting up into safe mode with networking and download malwarebytes and have it run a scan.
It does a pretty good job at removing worms and malware ^^

Make sure you run Safe Mode WITH networking , If you just boot into safe mode it will not let you use the internet.

In that case in Safe Mode try doing this.

Go into your Control Panel /Appearance and Personalization /Folder Options Go into the view tap and make sure that Show Hidden folders is on. Ofcourse skip all this if its you already have this.

Then go to C:/Documents and Settings/User/Application Data

Look for either a Folder with a funy name or an Application that will resemble the worm.
    Delete it and restart.

Let me know if it works or if you couldnt find the worm.

For some reason this sounds so similar to a bug one of my friends had. he couldn't run any .exe file including internet explorer, notepad, ect. It had something to do with his registry I had to spend like 2hrs looking on the web for a solution(which at the moment i dont have it again cause i didn't think i'd need it) and i had to like reset his registry stuff. I had to have "another" laptop side by side transfering things between usb to get his stuff working right again.
