When you feel overwhelmed, when 24 hours a day are not enough ...
Remember the mayonnaise jar and the coffee!
A professor in philosophy class, wordlessly, he picked up a large and empty bottle of
mayonnaise and filled it with golf balls.
Then he asked the students if the jar was full and they agreed that it was.
Again, not saying anything, the teacher picked up a box of pebbles and
poured into the jar of mayonnaise.
The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls.
The teacher again asked the students if the jar was full and they again said yes.
Then ... the professor picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar.
Of course, the sand filled all the gaps, and the professor asked once more if the jar was full.
This time the students responded with a "yes" unanimously.
Then the professor poured two cups of coffee and bottle contents effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed at this time. When the laughter subsided, the teacher said:
"I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life".

The golf balls are the important things like family, children, health, friends.
These are things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, our lives would still be full.
The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, the car, etc..
The sand is everything else. the little things. If you put the sand into the jar first, there wont be room for pebbles or the golf balls.
The same goes for life. '
If we spend all our time and energy on the small things, we will never have room for the really important things.
Pay attention to things that are critical to your happiness.
Play with your children, take time to review your health, go with your partner out to dinner
practice your favorite sport or hobby, there's always time to clean house and fix the water.
Take care of the golf balls first, the things that really matter.
Set your priorities, the rest is just sand.
One student raised his hand and asked what accounted for coffee ..

    The professor smiled and said:
'I'm glad you asked me. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend.

In my eyes, this is basically saying you shouldn't work solely for the purpose of making money, but because you enjoy it and that you receive money for doing a job that is personally satisfying.
(not sure that it relates to the same philisophical lesson as the OP's story, but insightful on its own level)
