Private servers will never be like that of retail..expect some hick ups everytime..

It's funny, a private server usually has two goals:

1) To provide a game to players free-of-charge.

2) To have the ability to tweak certain stats or items and eliminate some of the things a game developing company just "sees fit to be." In other words, having the ability to communicate with the general public and listen to their opinion on certain aspects of the game and changing those certain aspects to provide a better gaming experience. For example, tweaking the experience rate to allow players to reach level 55 faster.

What I'm saying is: we should get rid of all of the shit NCSoft implemented and implement the stuff the players see a need for.

Maybe I should make a thread about this.

 

Whats really lame is that there are several versions of it and a skilled enough SM can keep you feared indefinitely.

You forgot about THE NUMBER ONE goal of private servers. To make money. Sure the owners may be interested in making a fun place for ppl to play and hang out. They may like to provide stuff not easily accessible in retail but the one main reason of pretty much every private server in existence both active and shut down is to make money for the owners. And if the time ever comes where these servers stop generating money through donations and advertisements, then the owners will shut them down like that.

That depends on the server; Gamez is probably ran for profit because Carl has experience in running MMOs and it's quite easy for him to start a server and have that high quality hardware because he has the money to start it.

Other servers, such as ones opened by teenagers are probably just for fun and something they can do to provide others with entertainment.

 

The ones ran by teenagers messing around might be more for fun but those are more or less meant just for them and their friends to troll around. The majority of the "public servers" are made to make money and the owners can really make some big tax free bucks.
