Slotting Accuracy was never suppose to give you higher DPS, it is suppose to help you do sustained DPS. There is a difference. Having a constant "Hit" damage gives consistency to damage than a combination of "Hit/Miss" damage. Many people misunderstood the reasoning behind it.

Like you mentioned, it is advisable to have 2 armour sets to adapt to different opponents. Though this requires more effort/costs to obtain. If someone can only afford to get one armour set, having a default MR set does increase survivability but decreases DPS dramatically. As templars already come with numerous forms of survival boosting skills, that is the main reason why many players choose to make their one set a DPS (or semi-DPS) set.

PvE obtained gear always served as better choice, stat-wise, as the top weapon during armsfusion.
However the problem is not which is better. Rather there will always be a better. PvE weapons improve quite dramatically in each patch compared to changes in PvP weapons (hence why lv50 abyss weapons are still viable fuse). Additionally it is easier to replace a used PvE weapon than PvP weapon. 3.5 will eventually come with the introduction of mythical grade weapons, essentially making the current Vash top + ACD bot weapons less significant.

    Vasharti's Greatsword - Items - Aion
The Dragon Lord's Hatred - Items - Aion
The difference in stats, especially atk is a big jump.

One can argue, when 4.0 comes the same thing will happen again. When 4.0 hits, we have introduction of new classes, shifting the balance of PvP and possibly even a new level cap. This means new ideas/builds will be viable by then so it is less of an impact compared to 3.0 going into 3.5.

Templar isn't actually a hard class to play. It just requires a lot of switching to match different environments. Like you mentioned in your opening post, you need to switch between mace+shield, greatsword, extending weapons and armour sets.

Slotting manastones is easy choice, Suhosin and Zaitou summed it pretty well. Offensive: Critical in Armour and Accuracy in Greatsword. Defensive: Magic Resist in Armour and Block (or others) in Mace/Shield.

ACD top or bottom for Greatsword fuse? Up to you to decide. Zaitou has given quite good explanation on why having ACD on bottom. I gave my counter reasoning on the idea.

Extending weapons are always viable in most situations. It is never a bad thing to have more than 1 weapon. Extendables helps kiting and chasing battles. Non-extendables is stronger but you have to match pace and position yourself more often.
