    im from the UK and we've got 1000z of accents.. litteraly not just between the 3 diff countries we have but also between towns/citys that are only a few miles away. i was always led to believe the accent its self had a lot to do with the influences different (generaly invading armys *lol*) cultures had on an area... u mentioned the south of the USA.. had a large native American and mexican and ofc french/spanish infulences long ago the "accent" would have grown from children picking up the nuonces from these languages, where as the east coast was largly setlled by english/french (correct me if im wrong) so their accent wouldnt have had the exact same influences thus slightly different. and if this made no sence i apologise as iv just crawld outa bed lol

    No, thats whats up. Your post made perfect sense. Way more than I could say about 90% of the people that have replied. It's just really interesting to me how one language can split into different "accents", then split into different "languages".
