Wild Horses And Their Tiers

I've been playing for a couple of days now and when I first started to tame horses, the first horse I tamed was a black horse with sort of white socks (Which, after searching around, I've come to realise could have possibly been a Tier 5. I'm still new with figuring out the Tiers based off of their coats.) and when I registered it, it turned into this orange coat with an almost yellow mane and tail and was a Tier 2.

Today I was out looking for horses near Trent and came across a Tier 3 (Which I know has a braided mane and tail.) which I tamed and when I registered it, it turned into a Tier 2. Then I found another Tier 3 afterwards and when I registered it, it turned into a Tier 1.

Is this normal?? I'm still very new to taming horses but my current Tier 3 is beginning to seem very slow to me. Gotta go fast.
