i looked around more, people having the same problem, apparently its not just the .exe file association but the .lnk one (basically shortcut file associations), this means that we should be able to fix it with the same approach, just for .lnk instead of .exe

try the .exe and .lnk fix from here, it helped the original person with the same problem. this site has them as zip files, if u wanna make it easier i think the other site we used has the same fixes but not zipped

grab the .lnk fix from here and apply it

EDIT: im 90 percent sure the .lnk (its LNK) fix will help xD do this if the system restore doesnt, although it should
